BergaMet Mega+O from Citrus Bergamot
Bergamot is endemic to the Calabrian region in Southern Italy. In fact this region accounts for 80% of the worldwide production. Bergamot was known through traditional use of the fruit in Calabrian regions for decades as having beneficial effect in supporting and promoting the health of the cardiovascular system and supporting normal, healthy cholesterol in healthy people. Bergamot differs from other citrus fruits not only because of the composition of it's antioxidant flavonoids, but because of their particularly high content.
BergaMet Mega+O - a powerful natural cholesterol lowering product
From the Southern Ionic coast of Valabria in Italy, citrus bergamot is cultivated. Studies from the University of Rome, Italy have clearly shown dramatic results, initially in laboratory animals and confirmed in humans, in lowering cholesterol and positively affecting the metabolic syndrome.
One study of patients with Metabolic Syndrome showed BergaMet Mega+O 1000mg a day for one month lowered:
Total cholesterol 31% (20-45%)
LDL (bad cholesterol) 39% (20-45%)
Blood glucose 22%
HDL (good cholesterol) 43% (Av-38%)
Importantly, in the human trials to date, there have been no significant side effects reported from the use of BergaMet Mega+O.
How does BergaMet Mega+O work?
BergaMet Mega+O contains strong antioxidant bioflavonoids which affect cholesterol metabolism and metabolic syndrome at a number of levels. These include:
Reduced absorption of cholesterol in the gut
Decreased cholesterol production in the liver
Direct effect on the energy receptor on cell membranes aiding the entry of sugar into the cells and improving general metabolism
Inhibits the biosynthesis of cholesterol
BergaMet Mega+O not only affects blood parameters such as cholesterol and blood glucose but it also has been shown to work at the level of the artery (ie where heart disease actually starts). One study in rats showed injury to the carotid artery was improved over 50% with BergaMet Mega+O Therapy.
Another study of patients showed a 38% improvement in vascular reactivity after 30 days of BergaMet Mega+O therapy.
Other benefits from the human trials also showed a reduction in body weight and blood pressure.
BergaMet Mega+O Treatment
Safe, natural and multi functional approach for combating Metabolic Syndrome, high cholesterol
Normalise metabolic imbalance in obese and diabetic patients
Reduce oxidative stress and improves vascular reactivity in patients who have an intolerance to statins
First line therapy for people resistant to taking pharmecutical drugs
Metabolic Syndrome and BergaMet Mega+O
Practitioners are seeing more and more patients with Metabolic Syndrome every day. Now with BergaMet Mega+O there is one product that treats all the causative factors of Metabolic Syndrome and its clinically proven.
Metabolic syndrome is characterised by the following:
Tendency to diabetes (rising blood sugar)
High blood pressure
Specific cholesterol abnormalities
High cholesterol (high LDL cholesterol "bad cholesterol")
High triglycerides (another fatty component)
Low HDL (good cholesterol)
Abdominal obesity - defined as a waist measurement (around the umbilicus)
Males >95cms Females >80cm
Any combination of the above four actors markedly increases the risk for cardiovascular disease.
Current treatments for Metabolic Syndrome
The medical profession has a powerful combination of pharmaceutical drugs to treat cardiovascular disease and some aspects of Metabolic Syndrome. The mainstay for reducing and lowering cholesterol are statin drugs. There is no doubt that statins lower cardiovascular risk somewhere between 20-30%. The main problem however with these powerful drugs, is that a significant proportion of people taking them experience some type of increased risk and the side effects such as muscle aches and pains, fatigue, memory problems, depression, liver abnormalities, increased risks to diabetes and dementia - as serious side effects related to taking prescribed cholesterol reducing medication.
BergaMet Mega+O, used as either stand alone or in combination, as the first truly effective, evidence-based natural therapy for abnormal cholesterol profiles, cardiovascular disease /or metabolic syndrome.
BergaMet Mega+O A Proven Way To treat Metabolic Syndrome
Over 16 million prescriptions for cholesterol lowering drugs are written each year in Australia. In the UK this figure is nearly 52 million prescriptions per year, which accounts for approximately 20% of all coronary prescriptions. A far cry from the 1.6 million prescriptions New Zealand doctors are currently prescribing but this figure is now in line with Australia per capita and makes us one of the highest users of cholesterol reducing drug users in the developed world.
This has drawn warnings of increased risks of diabetes and dementia as serious side effects from taking prescribed cholesterol lowering medication.
100% natural and derived from the Bergamot orange Citrus Bergamia Risso, BergaMet Mega+O has been available in Australia since 2010 and represents as efficient phytotherapeutic approach in supporting healthy cholesterol levels and healthy blood sugar controls in healthy people.
BergaMet Mega+O New Zealand is proud to announce 100% natural, over the counter and safer alternative to prescribed medications to help support cardiovascular health.
According to Professor Vincenzo Mollace MD, PhD, Cardiologist and lead researcher on citrus Bergamot, and professor Faculty of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Catanzaro, Italy and Dr Ross Walker Cardiologist MB, BS (Hons) FRANZ in Australia, are both of the opinion that BergaMet Mega+O is the only product on the market at present (pharmaceutical and neutraceutical) that addresses the risk factors of metabolic syndrome. These clusters of risk factors include cholesterol, obesity, blood pressure and blood glucose and they prose a serious risk to cardiovascular health.
After trialling BergaMet Mega+O on some of his patients, Dr Walker noted the following: "Typically there is around a 30% reduction in total cholesterol, somewhere between 35-40% reduction in LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, up to a 40% increase in HDL cholesterol, along with a 20-30% reduction in blood glucose levels and as associated improvement in HbA1C, the best indicator of long term diabetic control. There is also variable benefits in blood pressure control and weight loss, in particular reductions in abdominal obesity."
In conclusion, BergaMet Mega+O is not for the treatment of high cholesterol, but may help to maintain cholesterol levels within the healthy range and improve HDL/LDL ratio.
Frequently asked questions about BergaMet Mega+O
How does BergaMet Mega+O work and what specific areas does it address?
BergaMet Mega+O reduces the amount of lipid (cholesterol and triglycerides) consumed through meals. In addition, it reduces the internal formation of cholesterol. Finally is helps glucose to enter the cells thereby producing benefits on patients suffering from metabolic syndrome and diabetes.
How many patients have taken part in clinical trials to date?
In many countries (Italy, Australia and USA) more than 2,000 patient are currently taking BergaMet Mega+O.
Have there been any side effects for patients taking BergaMet Mega+O?
To date, they have not found any significant side effects clearly correlating with the use of BergaMet Mega+O.
Can you take BergaMet Mega+O while on statin and blood pressure medication?
Many of the patients taking BergaMet Mega+O are also taking statin or drugs acting on the cardiovascular system. No significant changes in their therapeutic response have been found to date.
Can people who have had a heart bypass and stent procedure take BergaMet Mega+O?
Many of the people studied in clinical trials published in specialized journals have been carried out in people undergoing coronary by-pass or stent procedures and it shows beneficial effects on blood cholesterol and triglycerides.
Why is it important to take BergaMet Mega+O before a meal?
BergaMet Mega+O has to be taken before meals, as it reduces lipid absorption in the gut.
How does BergaMet Mega+O compare to other natural products such as Red Yeast Rice and Policosanol and others?
BergaMet Mega+O is the only natural compound working simultaneously on cholesterol, triglycerides and blood glucose. It may be taken with other natural compounds because of a peculiar mechanism of action.
What qualities does BergaMet Mega+Opossess that other citrus fruits don't?
BergaMet Mega+O is from the Bergamot Organie and specifically contains extremely large amounts of polyphenols, as compared to other citrus species. Two of them - Brutelidin and Melitidin, directly inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis in a way similar to statins, and they are not found in any other citrus derivatives.
Does BergaMet Mega+O have an anti-inflammatory qualities?
Recent studies have also shown that antioxidant molecules contained in BergaMet Mega+O may produce relevant effects on chronic inflammatory disorders and enhances the effect of drugs such as morphine acting on pain sensitivity.
Can people stop taking statins immediately, after starting to take BergaMet Mega+O?
If you are on a statin, you should never stop taking this without your doctors permission and supervision. If you have been taking a statin for any length of time, sudden cessation may lead to a marked rise in cholesterol over the initial levels. This is because statins block the last step in cholesterol production and when these are stopped, there is often an over reaction of the blocked enzyme to overcome this effect initially and would not be expected to reduce cholesterol for at least 2-3 months under these circumstances.
Can people take BergaMet Mega+O while also taking Warfarin?
There is no known interaction between taking Warfarin and BergaMet Mega+O and therefore from the studies to date, this appears a perfectly safe thing to do.
How does BergaMet Mega+O differ from grapefruit? Does BergaMet Mega+O have some side effects that people with grapefruit experience? Although BergaMet Mega+O has some similar antioxidants to grapefruit, grapefruit has a profound effect on the metabolic pathways within the liver and therefore blocks may drugs. BergaMet Mega+O does not appear to have the same effect and therefore appears safe to take with all medications. If in doubt, seek advice from your doctor.
Why is it important to take BergaMet Mega+O prior to meals? Also, is it still a benefit to take after meals, if you forgot to take it prior to eating?
BergaMet Mega+O has three main modes of action.
Firstly, it works to block the rate limiting step in cholesterol production known as the HMG CoA Reductase Enzyme which is the enzyme that is blocked by statin drugs.
BergaMet Mega+O works at a different site on this enzyme and therefore does not appear to affect the muscles and the liver in the same way that statin drugs may do so.
It does, however, have a significant reduction in cholesterol through this first mode or action.
Secondly, BergaMet Mega+O works directly on the insulin receptor, thus affecting metabolic syndrome ie The combination of the tendency to diabetes, high blood pressure, specific cholesterol abnormalities and abdominal obesity. All of these factors contribute to cardiovascular disease.
Thirdly, BergaMet Mega+O blocks cholesterol absorption in the gut similar to the plant sterols found in some types of margarine's and avocados.
This is the major reason it is important to take BergaMet Mega+O before meals, to block the absorption of cholesterol and other fats following the ingestion of a meal.
BergaMet Mega+O will still have an action if you take it at a meal, although it will not be as strong as if it is taken after meals, but certainly if you forget to take it before a meal, you should still take BergaMet Mega+O after a meal.
How does BergaMet Mega+O help lower blood glucose?
BergaMet Mega+O has an effect on blood glucose because of the direct effect on the "energy receptor" on the cell surface. Apart from the brain, for glucose to enter the cells and in particular the muscles, it has to enter via a receptor which Dr Mollace terms the "energy receptor". Insulin is the doorman that opens the door to facilitate the entry of glucose and other nutrients into the cells. In people with metabolic syndrome characterised by a tendency to diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, abdominal obesity and cardiovascular disease, the energy receptors is partially jammed and the only way the body can respond to this is by making more insulin to enter the cell. BergaMet Mega+O acts directly on this receptor to facilitate it opening and thus allows more sugar to enter the cell. This is probably why it also helps to reduce blood pressure and increase HDL.
Is it ok to take BergaMet Mega+O if you are a patient recovering from cancer treatment?
There are no problems in this regard, and in fact there is some evidence to show some support for BergaMet Mega+O in patients with various types of cancer, although this is certainly not a proven benefit as yet.
