Niacin is a water-soluble vitamin, also known as vitamin B3. The term niacin refers to nicotinic acid and nicotinamide, which are both used by the body to form the coenzymes, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP). Neither form is related to the nicotine found in tobacco, although their names are similar.
Niacin can help reduce lipids in your blood, including helping to lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol) and triglycerides, and raising high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol).
Studies show that niacin can also slow the progression of atherosclerosis when used with other cholesterol-lowering aids, diet and exercise. It is an effective detoxificant, can help improve circulation, is vital to the proper functioning of the nervous system and for formation and maintenance of healthy skin, tongue and digestive system tissues.
Niacin is necessary for the synthesis of sex hormones. Niacin is absorbed in the intestine and is stored primarily in the liver. Any excess is eliminated through the urine. Excessive consumption of sugar and starches will deplete the body's supply of niacin, as will certain antibiotics.

Ingredients

Each tablet provides: Bulking agents: dicalcium phosphate, micro crystalline cellulose. Niacin (Vitamin B3, as nicotinic acid) 100 mg. Anti caking agents: vegetable stearic acid, vegetable magnesium stearate, cellulose gum. Free of gluten, wheat, dairy, soy, yeast, preservatives, sweeteners, artificial colours or flavours.

Dosage

As a food supplement for adults, one (1) tablet daily, preferably at mealtime, or as directed by a healthcare practitioner.

Precautions

Keep out of the reach of children. Don't take niacin if you have impaired liver function or an active peptic ulcer. See your doctor before taking niacin if you have diabetes, gout, gallbladder or liver disease, arterial bleeding or glaucoma. If you're pregnant or breast-feeding, don't take niacin in doses greater than the RDA for pregnant or breast-feeding women. Side effects: At doses higher than 2,000 mg/day, niacin has potentially serious side effects that can include liver damage, high blood sugar and irregular heartbeats. As little as 50 mg/day can cause flushing, itching, headaches, cramps and nausea.
