Your Ultimate Home First-Aid Kit

It is inevitable that accidents will happen at the worst of times, and we like to think that we will be prepared. Ensuring we have a stocked first aid kit on hand means that we can tend to bumps and bruises in a timely manner, but what happens when a sudden sore throat or diarrhoea strikes?

Lets explore some of the household incidences that can be supported with your natural first-aid kit

Burns, bites and scratches

Whether it is a hot water burn, a scraped knee or sandfly bites, remedying these as soon as possible can make the difference between fast healing or the possibility of infection. Weleda Burns & Bites Cooling Gel provides a natural herbal cooling gel that can be used with the whole family. Arnica is a household stable due to its known benefits for bruising. Colloidal Silver is also a must have, known for its antibacterial properties and may aid in healing and scarring.

Vomiting & Diarrhoea

Stomach upsets can be caused by a multitude of bugs, from food to not washing our hand thoroughly. This can cause vomiting and diarrhoea, which can lead to dehydration. At the first sign of a stomach bug, using products like Activated Charcoal, Enterosgel or the probiotic strain Saccharomyces Boulardii, can help to eliminate the bacteria that has caused this upset, helping us to get back on track faster. If vomiting or diarrhoea has been severe it could be worth looking at an electrolyte formula such as Swanson Simply Hydrate to help with rehydration.

Nausea and stomach pains

Some of our more sensitive individuals may be prone to nausea or stomach pains. This may not always be associated with vomiting or diarrhoea, so having ingredients in our kit like Ginger or Chamomile can help to settle a sore or nervous stomach. The Gin Gins are great to have around, as not only do they contain large amounts of ginger, they also contain natural sugars, which can help if the nausea is related to a drop in blood sugar levels. Chamomile can be taken as a tea or in a capsule and is really soothing on the stomach for those of us that experience stomach aches due to stress or anxiety.

Panic Attacks & Stress

At times things around the house can get abit overwhelming, and all of that stress and worry we have kept hidden can boil over. In times like this is products like My calm & Rescue Remedy can be your best friend. My Calm uses homeopathic ingredients to help support us during times of elevated stress and overwhelming anxiety, while Rescue Remedy uses traditional Bach flower remedies that can be used to relax, comfort and bring a feeling of reassurance.

Immunity

Most of us know about using Vitamin C to help boost immunity and support the bodies defences, but there are other great ingredients that can fall under the radar.  Propolis throat sprays can be perfect at the first sign of a tickle. Propolis is produced by bees and is used to protect the hive from pathogens. Echinacea liquid can be used from the first sign of an infection as this stimulates the immune system to start fighting viruses before they overtake our body.  Lozenges can be used for a quick and easy on the go remedy at the first sign of a sniffle. Soothing or decongesting, lozenges are an important first aid staple.

Each home will have your own first-aid priorities, so ensure that you have your tailored to your family’s needs.

Remember that plasters, painkiller and even eye wash have an expiration date, so checking and replacing items every few months can help to keep them fresh.
