Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum) is a galactagogue which means its supports the normal flow of breast milk. It also helps to reduce baby's gas, which will ease griping and wind issues.
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is especially helpful for new mothers due to its wound-healing properties, which supports post birth comfort and healing. It is a well-known relaxant of the digestive tract supporting gastric comfort for both mother and baby.
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) has been used since ancient Greek times to support the flow of breast milk and aid digestion. When passed on to baby during feeding, it helps relieve excess gas as well as relax the digestive tract. Fennel is especially useful for infant colic.
Nettle (Urtica dioica) helps support normal milk production and increase the nutritious quality of breast milk. It is beneficial after birth. Nettle is a cleansing plant and improves detoxification.
Traditionally, Raspberry leaf (Rubus idaeus) is used from early pregnancy to post birth. Use 1 level tsp (1g) per cup (150ml) and infuse with boiling water for 5-10 minutes.
Dose: For low milk supply take 3 cups throughout the day - morning, afternoon and evening. To maintain healthy milk supply take 1 cup each day, for the period of lactation.
