Weleda Organic Cough Elixir. Soothing and expectorant for the relief of wet and dry coughs. Helps to relax and soothe the throat and chest, decrease mucous formation and aid expectoration. Contains herbal and homeopathic ingredients. The key ingredients include althaea, pimpinella, drosera and homeopathic ipecacuanha: help soothe irritated mucous membranes in the throat and chest by reducing inflammation and relaxing constricted muscles. Plantago, thymus and marrubium: help to break up and eliminate mucous. This cough elixir is mixed with warm water, and sipped on. Ideal for children.
Cough Elixir is not a cough suppressant. The cough is a protective mechanism for clearing breathing passages, which we do not try to suppress. The herbs Althaea (Marshmallow root), Pimpinella (Aniseed), Drosera (the Sundew), and homoeopathic Ipecacuanha act together to help soothe irritated mucous membranes in the throat and chest, by reducing inflammation and relaxing constricted muscles. Plantago (Plaintain), Thymus (Thyme) and Marrubium (Horehound) are expectorants, helping to break up and eliminate mucous. Inula (Elecampane) helps relieve chest congestion. Weleda Cough Elixir is manufactured using traditional herbal methods over three days. The dried herbs are soaked overnight, and then boiled as a decoction. Raw sugar and malt are added to produce a syrup, and upon cooling the homoeopathic liquids are added. After filtering, it is bottled and pasteurised. The raw sugar softens the herbal taste and acts as a preservative.

Organic Cough Elixir combines a wide range of herbal and homeopathic ingredients aimed at soothing the throat and helping loosen mucus. Marshmallow root is included for its soothing effect on irritated mucous membranes, thyme and horehound are classic expectorant herbs, plantain is often used for respiratory comfort, and elecampane is traditionally linked with chest support. Aniseed adds both flavour and its own long history of use in cough mixtures.
That makes Organic Cough Elixir relevant for both dry and chesty coughs, because the blend does two jobs at once. Some ingredients are there to calm irritation, while others help with mucus movement. The liquid format also suits this kind of product well because it can be sipped slowly and coats the throat as you take it.
What are the main herbs in Organic Cough Elixir?
Key herbs include marshmallow root, thyme, horehound, plantain, elecampane and aniseed, along with smaller homeopathic ingredients. The blend is built for throat and chest support rather than just one narrow use.
What does marshmallow root do in Organic Cough Elixir?
Marshmallow root is commonly used to soothe irritated throat tissues because it contains mucilage, a naturally coating plant substance. That is one reason it is a well-known cough ingredient.
Why are thyme and horehound included together?
Both herbs are traditional expectorants, meaning they are used to help loosen and move mucus. Together they give the elixir more chest-focused support.
Is Organic Cough Elixir only for dry coughs?
No. The ingredient mix is aimed at both irritation and mucus, so it can suit dry coughs and more chesty coughs where you want help bringing mucus up.
