More information on Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous Earth is made from the shells of one-celled plants called Diatoms. About 30 million years ago countless one-celled plants called Diatoms lived in the sea and built protective shells out of silica. As the Diatoms died the shells drifted to the floor and built up into deposits and the shell became fossilised. When the shells are compressed into a soft chalky rock they become known as Diatomaceous Earth. It is prepared for commercial use by quarrying, milling, grinding, screening and centifruging, the results is a fine talc like powder. The milling of the product cracks apart the Diatom skeletons to expose microscopic needles of silica that are razor sharp.
Its used as a barrier to control slugs and snails, sprinkle around the plant you want to protect. It is not a poison. It works mechanically. Insects must come in contact with Diatomaceous Earth, as they walk through the barrier the Diatomaceous Earth becomes stuck to their feet and as they clean their feet they ingest the Diatomaceous Earth and in turn shreds their internals causing them to die.
Does not harm warm blooded animals and earth worms are not affected by Diatomaceous Earth. Use as a natural barrier to control sawfly, codling moth, twig borer, thrips, mites, earwig, cockroach, slugs, snails, ants and many other insects.
For use as a natural, organic and safe insect killer. Non chemical. The tiny hard and sharp diatoms simply scratch off the insects waxy coating, causing it to dehydrate and die.

Diatomaceous Earth Bed Bugs
The info provided to us with regard to Diatomaceous earth and bed bugs is this:
All over the world, we are seeing outbreaks of bedbugs. Diatomaceous earth (DE) will not only kill bedbugs, but will do so safely without chemicals. Remember bed bugs cannot fly, so make sure the bed is away from the wall and there is no bedding touching the floor. Surround each of the legs of the bed with DE - this will kill them as they try to get off the bed the only way possible. Dust some DE on the mattress and bedding, especially in the creases. Dust DE on the carpets and in corners of the room. Remove electrical outlet covers and puff some DE inside the walls. The "Pest pistol" works great for this. Keep this routine up to several days, until no more bed bugs.
Pubic lice (crabs) and hair lice. Dust diatomaceous earth on all areas of the body that are infested with the lice (crabs) Dust your bedding and rooms you have been in, with DE also.
Do not breathe in dust, can be injurious to eyes. Keep out of reach of children.
