For 80 years, Weleda worldwide has manufactured medicines based on the philosophy that medicine should support our inherent healing tendencies - helping us help ourselves. Our holistic approach aims to heal the whole person, rather than suppress symptoms.
Our 'life' is more than a multitude of chemical reactions. Weleda's work is based on a much deeper understanding of our bodies and the nature of illness than the mechanistic picture so prevalent in the world today. From this understanding, Weleda has developed natural medicine and bodycare, which are produced to modern pharmaceutical standards, and which achieve high standards of quality and efficacy.
Weleda was founded in 1921 to develop the medicines required by anthroposophical doctors working with the ideas of Rudolf Steiner. These ideas have not only led to recognised developments in medicine, but also in Waldorf education, bio-dynamic agriculture and many other cultural and artistic fields. We are forty people united by our will to work for sustainable agriculture and natural health, and our values extend to the day to day running of the company. A responsibility towards the environment underlies our whole operation. Our organisation structure attempts to recognise and encourage the contribution of each staff member. We have strong ethics, and work within the bounds of current Australasian legislative requirements.
We actively support anthroposophical medical education through funding Asia-Pacific medical conferences as well as providing assistance to nursing and allied holistic therapies. Weleda's commitment is to provide effective medicine and bodycare products that reflect our holistic view of health. Weleda was established in response to the pharmaceutical needs of anthroposophical doctors and clinics. Our commitment to provide natural medicine of conventional pharmaceutical quality remains true to the founding ideals. Weleda product efficacy is based on 80 years of product development and monitoring.
The formulations were developed by professionals with specialised training, enabling them to choose the right remedies in the right concentrations for the different ailments. The majority of our formulae, concepts (such as the odoron range of medicines) and production methods are unique. Weleda uses whole plant extracts rather than isolated extracts. We hold to the traditional herbal belief that using whole plant extracts gives a synergism to its constituents that may result in greater healing results.
