Zinc is an antioxidant and free radical scavenger, and involved in hundres of important functions in the body. It is a component of the hormone insulin (along with the mineral chromium), and male reproductive fluid. Zinc is involved in digestion, metabolism and energy production; and is essential to the functioning of more than 200 human enzymes, including those necessary to synthesise DNA and RNA. More zinc is found in the body than any other trace mineral, except for iron. Relatively large amounts are found in bone and muscle. It’s also prevalent in the prostate gland and retina.
